Dave, founder of Gravelstoke, took his Litespeed Ultimate Gravel on an epic tour from San Diego to Sea Otter. With a new appreciation for gravel and a renewed gratitude for his curiosity, Dave recounts the adventures he experienced on his Litespeed Ultimate Gravel.
Litespeed has pedigree in titanium, and it shows in this off-road racer. The Ultimate Gravel was pacy, responsive and felt far more alive than many gravel bikes I’ve ridden. The more I rode it, the more the Ultimate Gravel endeared itself to me. It feels like a bike for life.
Before carbon took over, a debate about the best frame material enveloped the cycling world. Was it steel? After all it is real. How about alloy? Unfortunately, it was not yet at the level of quality we're seeing today. No, the "it" material was titanium and the "it" Ti builder was Litespeed, a company whose reputation precedes it.
Litespeed has been designing titanium bikes for over 30 years, and the Unicoi design has been in its quiver of short-travel XC race bikes for some time. The MBA wrecking crew couldn’t pass up the opportunity to put this new unique “hardtail” to the test on our local stomping grounds, so we ordered one up and headed out to our favorite trails.
