Little Bit of Vintage
Visiting area thrift shop, vintage shops, antique shops, and any other quaint or interesting shops I find.

Most of these shops are where I go to dig for vintage treasures and hot decorating items for the right price.

I don't mind paying a little more if the vintage item is in mint condition, but I won't pay premium prices for items in less the perfect condition.

I never go to the local area Salvation Army's for that reason.  If an item seem to have the least little age on it, they slap higher then antique prices on it. For instance, last winter I found five 1950's coats with fur collars in mint condition at a Goodwill shop for only 4.50 each.  At the Salvation Army, a similar "rat eaten" coat was marked 39.95.  You have to be kidding.  If I want to pay those prices, I will go to Ebay and get it in mint condition.
One of my favorite thrift shops in Chillicothe, Ohio.  Though the open hours are short, it is well worth the trip.

I routinely turn down vintage clothes here, simply because I have more then enough at the present.

I have discovered some wonderful, even amazing treasures here.  It isn't because the ladies don't know what they have, they just don't care, to them it is old stuff.
Stop Cancer Thrift Shop
This was one of my favorite thrift shops, but they have since closed.
It was located at 151 East Main Street directly across from a Sac N' Save.

They are searching for a new larger location, if there is any Chillicothe landlord looking for new tenants, give them a call.

Open on Wednesday from 1pm till 4pm and Thursday from 1pm till 4pm, then on Saturday from 10am till 1pm.  That's it, three days a week for about 3 hours a day.

Don't go in bad weather, the elderly ladies who volunteer here, don't come out in it.

All proceeds go to Cancer research.  Donations are most welcome and you can leave them on the front porch at any time.

NO JUNK.  AND please, NO stoves, refrigerators, ect.  They do not have room.  This is a very small shop, only three rooms, but well worth the time it takes to stop.

Don't get there before me.   A five star rating, even if it is small.
Chillicothe Thrift Shop
They are a great place to visit.  They changed owners last year, but the place is still rockin!

Another great little thrift shop worth your time and effort to visit.  Located on the corner of High Street and Buckeye Street, it is open very few hours a week.  Monday from 2pm till 4:30,

Friday from 2 till 4:30 and Saturday from 10am till noon.
What you find here is some extraordinary vintage clothing from the 50's and 60's.  Even if the clothing is not in good shape, don't forget to check out the buttons. I have found some great vintage buttons with rhinestones or carvings on some very moth eaten clothes!  Run by nice elderly ladies.  I visit most Saturdays....... just a warning!  lol
A new shop opened up and closed, so fast, my head spun around.  It was located  right next to the Salvation Army shop on Western Ave. in Chillicothe, Ohio.

Called - Annie's Attic. I have yet to stop in, but will try today.  A full report will sure to follow.

The Salvation Army is located at 769 Western Ave.  Chillicothe, Ohio - phone number is 740-775-6995

I like this shop, easy parking on both sides of the building.  Easy exit, if you go to the back of the property, turn left, then go to the light.

Thrift Shops Chillicothe, Ohio
Circleville , Ohio GoodWill Store The place is large, roomy, decently cleaned - although I wouldn't recommend asking to use the restroom.  Their selection of good junk runs the gambit from clothing to trinkets to furniture.  You never know what you might find here.

The only criticism I have is their prices.  A little high for my taste.  I don't begrudge a decent asking price, but you will need to look over your selection with a good eye, as I have found they will put a premium price on chipped or broken vintage trinkets, the same as ones in mint condition.  I have seen their glass display cases holding vintage McCoy, Hull, a vintage Sonny and Cher doll and many other items.

With their retro clothing....it is the same way - ripped, tattered or torn vintage is the same price as mint condition.

But I did manage to nab a little vitnage Whiting Davis mesh purse for .99 the other day.  It was missing a jewel, but nothing I can't get replaced.  Guess there are still finds to be made!
The Goodwill Store located in Circleville, Ohio has moved to a new location.  They are located at 1211 North Court Street, right across from the Oak Hill Bank and Carnival Market.  Phone Number is 1-474-4248.

This shop is clean, clean, clean!  Located near great little places to eat, so you can combine thrift store shopping and food at the same time.    There were more clothes then good junk, but it was nice all the same.

You just never know what you will find at your local Goodwill.  My only complaint about
Goodwill is their on line auction.  I hate the idea that they have pickers going through their stuff and putting all the really good stuff on line.  I wish they would offer it to the locals first.  Even if it is an on line auction price.

In some ways, I think the internet has hurt my treasure hunting....in some ways....in others, I have found items on line, that I would have had to search forever for.  Tit for Tat! :)
Goodwill Book Shop in Portsmouth, Ohio
The Goodwill Ye Olde Book Shoppe - (740) 354-2960, 1317 9th St, Portsmouth, OH 45662 has an extremely large selection of books, magazines, and paper items.

It is clean, well organized, and roomy.  This book thrift shop is where old books start new lives.  If you love vintage books, you should take the time to visit this booky thrift shop.  Worth going out of your way.

As long as you are in the Portsmouth area, stop and visit the other Goodwill in town.  A well lit, rather large Goodwill filled to the brim with clothes, trinkets, and furniture. Great junk all around.
Although we didn't find anything on this journey, it's well worth a trip back.

Located at 1910 Robinson Ave, Portsmouth, OH 45662 - 740) 354-2897. It can be difficult to find if you are not familiar with the Portsmouth area.  You will find the shop facing east on a two lane one way street running west.
There was a Salvation Army along Salvation Army along the way.  Why it was closed on a Saturday is anyones guess.  If you go duiring the week, let me know if it was worth the stop.  Located  at 1001 9th St, Portsmouth, 45662 - (740) 353-2400.  This thrift shop a couple blocks before  the Goodwill Book Shop.
Someone sent me this.....

I looked at the web site....pretty darn cute.  Here is a photo, I used from their web site.
(Hope they don't mind). They have some cute purses on their site.  They do a little ebaying,
but I think it would be worth a stop if you are in the area.

Isn't vintage always worth a stop?!

I have visited this antique shop.  Very nice and loaded with antiques with a flare for the primitive decorator.  Clean, well organized, not overly crowed and the owner was a gracious host, although he had a distinct dislike for the internet when I mentioned it.   The prices were right for retail and I dare say, there were a few bargains!

I purchased a group of pyrex bowls from the above eBay seller.  They arrived with the middle bowl broken.  I posted a photo of the broken bowl in package and these people sent me back my payment, minus the shipping of course.  I thought this was reasonable and a good way to do business.  If you are going to purchase from this eBay seller, I would highly recommend them
