Little Bit of Retro Thrift Store
Yesterday, there was an auction near my house.
I always go to an auction early, this way I can carefully look at items I am interested in.  Checking for chips, cracks, or other imperfections that will bring my bidding price down.  This auction was going to have many box lots.  Box lots are a box, filled with a variety of items.  Easier to rid the house of the countless articles we gather throughout life.  I had an hour or so before the actual auction began, so I took my time rummaging through the boxes, looking at the furniture, house-wares, and other items spread out on the grass for inspection.  Nice.  Everything was clean, not a spot of dirt or dust.

I had decided to stay for the day, so I went to the sign in table, gave them my driver's license and waited until they signed me in and gave me a bidding card.  This auction was an estate auction and I could pay with either check, cash, or credit card.

I grabbed a cup of coffee at the concession stand, usually ran by a local church group, but this one was a mom and pop, making a little spare change on the weekends.  They offered BBQ Beef, hot dogs, chips, pop, water, coffee and donuts.  I was set for the day.

As I walked through the yard, sipping my coffee and munching on a donut, I saw lawn furniture up near the house. I hadn't seen this before, so I went to take a look.  Humm... vintage 50's, pale yellow in color, made of solid heavy iron, with mint condition cushions.  I swear, I gasp when I saw the couch was a glider.  So we have a glider, rocker side chair, regular side chair, 2 coffee tables, 2 side tables, and a couple other tables.  This outfit must have been in the sun room.  Perfect!

My sister had been hunting for 50's sun room furniture.  I yanked out the cell phone and gave her a quick call.  She said she was on the way.  Then I spotted old yard tools.  Old shovels, racks, wheel barrels, among other stuff.  There was a snow shovel on wheels!   My girlfriend was looking for the old yard tools.  The tools made in the 50's, 60's, and 70's are heavy and made of better woods and metals.  Much better then the crap they sell at hardware stores today.  Everything made back then was sturdier, better grade, and it will last a life time.  Better believe everyone goes to auctions to get what they can't get today.

I gave my girlfriend a call too.,They both arrived just in time, scrambling for their bidding cards and to the ring just in time for the bidding to begin.  So along with the three of us, the auction was full of antique dealers, ebay sellers, collectors and people looking for a bargain.

Under a tent, in the middle of the home's back yard, the auction began.  It was a wonderful cool, dry day.  The food was great.  The auction had attracted about 200 local people.  The house sold at 1 p. m. for 175,000.00 and it was worth every penny.  Actually, it was a steal.  The basement was completely finished, even had a fireplace down there.  Four full bathrooms, 5 bedrooms, kitchen, dining room......wish I had the money.  Wow.

Anyway, back to the auction.  My sister didn't get her sun room furniture, it went for to much money, but I walked away with a bunch of the lawn tools, one of those old rollers for the garden hose, and a handy 50's cart that wheels your garbage cans to the curb.  Great additions to my 50's home.

I love those old rollers for the garden hose.  Made of metal, they never ware out and don't break like that cheap crap at the hardware or garden stores today.  The wheel cart for the garbage cans is made of aluminum, so it will never rust.  O, yes, I have
the metal garbage cans, keeping the 50's 60's look even there.  No plastic cans for me.

Guess you've had enough of the auction.  O, one more thing.  I managed to bring home these great 1970's blind, sometimes called shades or window treatments.  I am going to post pictures of them in the morning and offer them for sale here.  They are perfect and if they had fit any window I have in my home, you would have never seen them, but much to my sorrow, they don't.  So here you go.

One set of 4 vintage 1970's blinds, sometimes called shades for your vintage 70's home.  These are classic seventies.  Notice the little ruffles in rows of three at the bottom of each shade.  Nice decoration.  Great pull.  The pull if made of a rope and a pull which had been wrapped in material.  I did want to point out there is some discoloration in all the shades about half way down.  This would not be noticed if the blinds were only pulled half way down.  A couple little spots, nothing to worry about.

They are great otherwise.  A nice sturdy linen material of some sort was used for the shades.

Up to you.  Price 25.00 for all.  Plus 10.00 for shipping.  Good in the continental United States only.
Sorry everyone, but these were sold this week.  Only had these beauties for a short time.  If they had fit my windows, I would have kept them forever.

You will have to try your luck on Ebay.

I have seen reproductions of these lamps, but you can squeeze the plastic.

The ball on this lamp is almost impossible to squeeze.

Sitting on a round metal tray littered with vintage jewelry from the decade.

A vintage Owl necklace is hanging from the pink lamp.

Behind you will see an autographed photo of Laverne and Shirley.  This was purchased on Ebay from a reputable dealer.  Even had a photo of the photo being signed by the stars.
Hot Pink Collectibles found at local Thrift Shops in Ohio.

Here is a vintage hard plastic ball lamp.

The pink light nestles in a round metal cradle that stands on three metal legs which are far apart.
Funky Vintage Lamp made from a coffee pot!
Look at this cool coffee pot lamp that was found at a Goodwill store in Circleville, Ohio!  What a find!  Yes, it very ugly, that is what we like about it.  We paid 6.00 for this lamp, fiberglass shade and all.
Lavern and Shirley in Vintage Pink
Vintage album ELO
All of these items were found in local thrift shops, secound hand stores, or in the 23 Southbound Flea Market.

A pair of bright yellow shoes from the sixties.  These shoes are all vinyl, even the cute little flowered decorations on the top of the shoes.  Look at the colorful inserts in the shoes, it just screams late 1960's.  Use shoes like this to decorate your home with and make it ultra 1960's.

Just place shoes on an old record album, like an Electric Light Orchestra, add a vintage Smiley Cup made here by McCoy. Add a pair of Beatles funky sun glasses, a black light and you are on your way to the 60's!

On the side place a couple of groovy 60's Spider plants. You remember these, they were all the rage then. What a hot display!

Chrome Table 1950's
I don't think any one would believe me if I told them that this 1950's Happy Days Black and White Chrome Kitchen Table was sitting at the flea market in a booth accross from me for only 75.00.  If I needed another table, you would never hear about this one.
Chrome Table
Lucky for someone, I don't need another 1950's Chrome Kitchen table, but it is tempting, as this table has 4 matching chairs.  The table, itself, is in mint condition, just needs a little brillo pad applied to the legs and sides.  That will make that chrome shine.

Look at the dogwood design in the table top pictured above.  The top of this table says it all......the 50's rock!
The chairs are not perfect, but after 50 plus years, vinyl does crack some.  After they applied this vinyl, they would sorta shrink wrap it tight to the seats...that is why it cracked over time.  I have to say, though, that these chairs are not in bad shape at all.....and if I were you, I wouldn't waist time calling the flea market about this table.....Tell them you want to talk to Tod about his 1950's Chrome Kitchen Table!
